home is where the art is

Salvaged furniture. Hardly the most exciting subject to blog about is it? But thanks to checking out recyclart and storageandglee recently, I’ve discovered the ancient and delicate art of REPURPOSED FURNITURE. Repurposing is purely a matter of taking something old and twisting it into something new – creating a unique piece of furniture for your home in the process. It’s ingenious!

depeche mode – o2 arena

I was lucky enough to get to review Depeche Mode for Supersweet magazine, not a band I’m particularly partial to if I’m honest, but they were actually pretty good on the night:

With a legacy of hit albums and a legion of fans worldwide, Depeche Mode are undoubtedly the kings of electro-pop. In one of the final dates of their epically titled ‘Tour of the Universe’, a tour sadly marred by frontman David Gahans ill health, the audience wait with much anticipation for a band returning to the UK in their third decade together.

lonely worlds

I always thought 28 Days Later’s scene depicting a deserted london was fascinating – the idea of everyone disappearing all at once, leaving the world empty and utterly vacant, always haunted me in my latchkey-kid days. Photographs of Prypiat, the town evacuated after Chernobyl, perfectly illustrate the eerie atmosphere you’d find in an abandoned world, as do “Tokyo Nobody” and “empty LA”, two photography projects depicting once-populated now-empty cities.

The present meets the past in spectacular fashion:

fashion…

Should I be embarrassed to say this? Probably. Oh well… I’m a big fan of fashion adverts. There, I said it. The poncier the better. Is that so bad?? Most of the time they’re classy, refined and artful, a revolution away from the army of CILLIT BANG and GOLDGOLDGOLD!!! that’s everywhere right now. Obviously you need to look good all the time if you’re a world class fashion label, so high quality adverts are essential which translates to better ad-breaks.

Some of the best:

Chanel No 5 (starring Audrey Tautou)

unmade beds

Harmless but kinda cool-looking – Unmade Beds. Two out-of-towners, each on a quest, cross paths while living in an east london squat. I’m guessing a romance is involved. Out on the 11th!
